We know this month is already half over but it is important that we recognize Cervical Cancer/Health Awareness! Cervical Health Awareness Month is a chance to raise awareness about how women can protect themselves from HPV (human papillomavirus) and cervical cancer. About 79 million Americans currently have HPV, the most common sexually transmitted disease. HPV is a major cause of cervical cancer. To learn more please visit healthfinder.gov
Cervical cancer was once one of the most common causes of cancer death for American women. Then, between 1955 and 1992, the cervical cancer death rate declined by almost 70%. The main reason for this change was the increased use of the Pap test. (PREVENTION) This screening procedure can find changes in the cervix before cancer develops. It can also find cervical cancer early − in its most curable stage.
Not only should all of us be aware this month, but we should continue to EDUCATE and RAISE AWARENESS ALL YEAR!
